PTDF Scholarship: The application is open for the 2024/2025 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for Nigerians to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, And Malaysia. About the PTDF Scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency tasked with developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas MSc and Ph.D. scholarships to specific programmes at selected institutions through its PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2024/2025 academic year.

The plan was designed to provide candidates with access to a diverse pool of information and facilities provided by world-class universities throughout the world. Candidates are asked to apply through PTDF to particular programmes at partner institutions.

Benefits of PTDF Scholarship Award

Below are the benefits of the PTDF scholarship award:

PTDF Overseas Scholarship Requirements

Master Degree Requirements

Below are the eligibility requirements for the master’s degree category as provided by PTDF without alteration:

  1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
  2. Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  3. Must be computer literate
  4. Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  5. Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry, and its expected impact on national development.
  6. Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and will be required to have verified it (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.

PhD Eligibility Requirements

Below are the requirements for the PhD category as provided by PTDF:

  1. Applicants must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  2. You must be computer literate to be eligible
  3. Applicants must possess 5 O/Level Credits (Mathematics and English compulsory)
  4. Have a minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good post-graduate degree
  5. A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than five pages) to include the topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and mode of data collection.
  6. All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellors confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships

Documents Requirements

The below-mentioned documents must be scanned by applicants and attached to their online application forms:

  1. Passport Photograph
  2. Bachelor’s degree certificate or statement of results
  3. NYSC discharge certificate
  4. WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and results checker pins for verification
  5. Certificate of Local Government of Origin
  6. Provision of Master’s degree certificate by PhD applicants
  7. Evidence of membership in professional associations

 

PTDF Overseas Scholarship Selection Modality

Based on the submitted qualifications, the top applicants for each category from each state will be invited for an interview where a selection committee will be constituted to assess applications using the following criteria:

  • Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications acquired
  • Relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only)
  • Membership of professional bodies
  • The viability and relevance of the study/research plan.
  • Relevance of previous studies to the oil and gas industry and the proposed course/research

Only candidates who successfully scale through the first round of screening will be requested to attend the interview round with their transcripts; all applicants are therefore advised to prepare their transcripts in anticipation.

Fill out the Applicant account form and click the green button below the form to register your account

Log in with your email as username and the password you created. Follow the instructions sent to your email address.

Click the NIN verify button to begin your application

For those who are just verifying their NIN, fill in the fields and agree on the terms (charges may apply).

You will be required to agree or decline the terms and conditions noting that PTDF reserves the right to grant another university other than those you specify in this application. You will also be required to select your first, second, or third preference university and courses.

Please keep in mind that if your first preference is a German university, you must schedule an interview in Abuja. You are also required to upload your statement of aim (for MSc applicants) or research proposal (for PhD applicants).

You must submit a maximum of five journals/publications, as well as academic membership in any professional association.

NOTE: PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected. The PTDF scholarship board employs a grading system that assigns grades to each degree class, every SSCE result, and all pertinent requirements. Consequently, candidates are chosen based on their overall performance.
